I have always loved animals from an early age - we had dogs, rabbits, fish, budgies, cats, a mouse and even chickens when I was growing up, and I would often walk dogs for neighbours, family friends and relatives.
I left school and did the usual jobs.....Then my husband and I adopted our 3rd German Shepherd, Barney. Barney had been kept isolated in a barn - for how long, we don't know. We do know that he was at least 6 and a half years old when he came to us and he had not been socialised. He was afraid of people and other dogs, had never been on a lead and was basically a nightmare to walk! From the start he was a lovely lad, but desperately in need of help to learn to relax and be a dog....so I found him a good behaviourist who really understood his fears. We helped Barney over his fear of people and dogs, then started taking him on pack walks to socialise. It was great seeing Barney enjoy the company of the other dogs and it's amazing how much being with them has helped his confidence....and while Barney was out having fun with his friends and getting the exercise he needed, I was there, helping to walk them and gaining valuable dog handling experience - and loving it! In fact I loved it so much that over time I came to realise that working with animals is what I really wanted to do...so I left my job, completed some dog related courses, and built up my own dog walking business. And here I am today, Fit N Furry!
